You hammered out a compensation plan both encouraging to affiliates and profitable to your business. You’ve got tracking software in place. You’ve turned the key in the ignition of your marketing machine… and nothing’s happening.

Your army of affiliates can be viewed metaphorically as a tree. Full grown, it will thrive in rain and sunshine. Strong changing winds can shake its branches, but the tree will continue to grow. In the early seed stage, however, special care is needed if you want your tree to break through the surface.

You spent a great deal of time, energy, and likely at least a little money creating your affiliate program. You need to attract strong affiliates that can rapidly build your customer base and return your investment. How can you bring these powerful marketing dynamos into your camp, ideally without drawing on your already diminished cash reserves?

1.) Submit to Online Directories
The method that will show the most immediate increase in new affiliates is listing your program in online affiliate directories. These reference sites are the first stop for hungry potential affiliates looking for the income opportunity that is going to allow them to quit their 9 to 5 jobs. Many such directories exist, and obviously some will bring you better results than others. Since submitting to almost all of these directories is free, though, get listed on as many as you can. Here are a few links to submission pages to get you started, but by no means should you stop with just these few:

http://www.becomeanaffiliate.com/cgi-bin/add.cgi
http://www.affiliatesoftware.info/joinaffiliatedirectory.php
http://www.affiliatescreen.com/suggest_program.php
http://www.affiliatematch.com/cgi-bin/links/add.cgi
http://www.2-tier.com/cgi-bin/add_url.cgi
http://www.affiliatesdirectory.com/links/add.cgi
http://www.earnfind.com/addprogram-howto.php

2.) Advertise in Your Own Newsletter
Hopefully you’ve been collecting email addresses from your website and sending a regular newsletter to your visitors. (If not, read this article: http://www.zeromillion.com/ebiz/creating-an-email-newsletter.html) Your newsletter subscribers are a precious handful of people that have expressed direct interest in keeping abreast of the latest developments with your product/service and company. Give them what they want! You can kick off your affiliate program with an article in your newsletter explaining the benefits and encouraging your subscribers to participate. Your future newsletters can contain short blurbs about the affiliate program and how it’s progressing to inform new subscribers and remind your original readers.

3.) Post to Affiliate Forums and Newsgroups
Approach this method with caution. No one will be impressed if you post a blatant advertisement or a plea to join your affiliate program. If you find a forum that contains such messages, don’t even bother making a post there. The forum probably isn’t moderated, and almost certainly isn’t read by many people. The place to include information about your website and program is in your profile (and in your signature line if other posters do so). A serious forum, read by the type of people you want to have as affiliates, will only contain posts with relevant and useful content instead of advertising fluff messages.

How can you add relevant and useful content? The first step is to read some of the existing posts and get a feel for the general personality of the forum. At best, reading old posts will spark questions that can be turned into relevant posts and generate interested responses. At worst, you’ll see what’s been talked about recently, so you don’t make the awkward mistake of asking a question that was answered a few days ago.

If no topics come to mind after reading old posts, a possible strategy is to ask for the advice of some experienced affiliates in how you could improve your program. You’ll find different ideas on what constitutes a solid compensation plan, tracking system, or incentive program. Beyond getting attention for your program, this is a great opportunity to improve your program by picking the brains of people who’ve been in the game longer than you.

This list is obviously not comprehensive, but it contains a few forums worth investigating:

http://www.ablake.net/forum/
http://iwiz2.richdad.com/jive/application2/forum.jsp?forum=33

by: Clay Mabbitt
About the Author: Clay Mabbitt writes articles about evaluating online
of the most popular businesses around - the business
of affiliate marketing. In this business, there are
no bosses, deadlines to meet, or piles of work that
have to be finished by the end of the day. In
order to succeed, you only need the necessary
tools.

There are basically five things you can’t do without
if you want to make it in the business of affiliate
marketing. Below, you’ll find each quality you’ll
need.

1. Desire to learn
The first quality you must possess is the desire
to learn, coupled with the willingness to be
trained. Treading through unfamiliar territory
is tough indeed, especially if your lacking the
right knowledge. This is a combination of the right
frame of mind, coupled with a strong work ethic.

When starting out, you’ll need to be willing to
keep your eyes and ears open, using the experience
of others to learn more as you go.

2. Invest time and effort
The second quality you must have is the willingness
to invest time and effort in helping your business
grow, even if you don’t see immediate results. Even
though weeks may pass without hearing good news,
it’s very important for anyone who wants to get
their foot in the business world.

3. Determination
The third quality you’ll need is determination. If
you want to make it in the world of affiliate
marketing, you must possess to push yourself
forward. The ability to push yourself to greater
heights will determine what type of future you have.

4. Discipline
The fourth quality is self discipline. If you
teach yourself to work everyday with all of your
heart and soul, you’ll be that much closer to
reaching your goals and making your dreams come true.

5. Optimism
The last quality you must have is optimism. Bad
attitudes should never discourage an affiliate
marketer from pursuing their dreams in order to
make life better for themselves or anyone around
them.

The attitude you have towards the business should
always be good, because you’ll have to realize that
you’re the captain of your ship and your the one
steering it towards destiny.

If you put the above tips to good use, you’ll go
farther than you ever thought possible in the world
of affiliate marketing. You’ll need these qualities
to succeed, as affiliate marketing can be a cutting
edge career. With the above qualities, you’ll do
just fine in the industry.

Yahoo slashes 10% of workforce
The beleaguered Internet company says it will layoff more than 1,500
employees in the fourth quarter; sales and profits for third quarter
match forecasts.

NEW YORK — Yahoo announced Tuesday that it plans to
cut at least 10% of its workforce, or more than 1,500 employees, in
the fourth quarter in an effort reduce costs.

The struggling Internet company also announced sales for the third
quarter that were roughly in line with Wall Street’s forecasts and
earnings that matched expectations.

Yahoo had 15,200 employees at the end of the third quarter. The
much-anticipated round of layoffs comes on the heels of another 1,000
job cuts in late January.

"We have been disciplined about balancing investments with cost
management all year, and have now set in motion initiatives to reduce
costs and enhance productivity," said Yahoo co-founder and CEO Jerry
Yang in a written statement.

“The steps we are taking this quarter should deliver both near-term
benefits to operating cash flow, and substantially enhance the
nimbleness and flexibility with which we compete over the long term,”
he added.

In a conference call after the results were announced, Yang said the
company was working to reduce costs in other ways than just slashing
jobs, including relocating offices and consolidating real estate. “We
are identifying ways we can operate more efficiently,” he said.

Yahoo (YHOO, Fortune 500) reported revenue of $1.79 billion in the
quarter ended Sept. 30, an increase of 1% from the $1.77 billion in
the same quarter one year ago.

Excluding commissions paid to advertising partners, Yahoo posted sales
of $1.33 billion, slightly lower than the $1.37 billion in sales that
analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected on this basis.

Yahoo reported net income of $54 million, or 4 cents per share, a
decline of 51% from a year ago. Excluding certain one-time charges,
Yahoo recorded profits of $123 million, or 9 cents per share, which
was in line with what analysts had forecast on this basis.

Yahoo’s stock ended the regular trading day down 79 cents at $12.07
but rose 7% in after hours trading.

The report provided “no more negative surprise beyond what we had
already expected,” said Sandeep Aggarwal, Senior Internet Analyst at
Collins Stewart.

And given the weak economy, Yahoo’s report “could have been a lot
worse,” noted Jeffrey Lindsay, senior analyst with Sanford C.
Bernstein & Co.

Lindsay said that Yahoo’s decision to reduce costs, mostly through
massive job cuts, has the potential to buoy the company through the
hard times. “If they really do take the staff numbers down for real,
that will have a very beneficial effect,” said Lindsay.

Yahoo’s stock has been battered in recent months due to concerns that
companies would cut their online advertising spending as a result of
the economic slowdown. Executives admitted that Yahoo’s performance
has been taking a hit from the sluggish economy.

“An increasingly challenging economic climate and softening
advertising demand contributed to revenues this quarter coming in at
the low end of our outlook range,” said Yahoo Finance Chief Blake
Jorgensen in a statement.

“While we are disappointed with our results, we’re pleased that we
continue to benefit from the aggressive cost management efforts we
have pursued during the year,” he added.

Looking forward. In light of the distressed global economic climate,
Yahoo lowered its sales guidance for the remainder of the year. At the
end of the second quarter, the company was expecting sales to be in
the range of $7.35 billion and $7.85 billion. However, the company has
now trimmed that revenue guidance to between $7.18 billion and $7.38
billion.

Even thought Yahoo cut its sales forecasts, the company didn’t
decrease operating cash flow guidance. According to Aggarwal, that
means that Yahoo’s profit margins will be higher than originally thought.

Investors are worried that large companies will spend less on
so-called Internet display ads, such as banners and video. Automakers
and banks, two of the nation’s hardest hit sectors, have typically
been big purchasers of display ads.

Yahoo turned down several takeover offers from Microsoft (MSFT,
Fortune 500) this year, a decision that has frustrated many Yahoo
shareholders. Since then, Yahoo has pursued an ad-sharing deal with
top rival Google (GOOG, Fortune 500).

The partnership has been put on hold, however, as the Justice
Department investigates whether the deal would create an online
advertising monopoly and violate antitrust laws.

In the conference call, Yang shot down speculation that Google might
pull out of the partnership and said that the company was still
working with the Department of Justice to negotiate the deal with
Google. “We look forward to bringing the benefits to the marketplace
as soon as possible,” said Yang.

Also on the conference call, Yahoo president Susan Decker talked about
Yahoo’s efforts to move away from a “one size fits all” portal to a
more customized experience. Yahoo has been criticized by some for
being too broad and lacking a definite focus.

Meanwhile, Google announced last week that its profits jumped a
better-than-expected 26% in the third quarter. Google has continued to
report strong growth despite the economic downturn thanks to its
dominance in search advertising.

You will acquisition that affiliated marketing is one of the best ways for someone to market and advertise online. It will help you to accomplish some more money, but it will also push online sales to go up as well. You will want to keep in mind that affiliated marketing is something that you can generate more interest for your own website and products, as well as, make a profit by selling others. You’ll want to consider cashing in on this marketing scheme, because it is almost a no-fail plan. You’ll need to consider having good connections that you can rely on, as well as, being a good connection yourself.

Keep in mind that there are three ways that you will be able to receive payment. You will be able to use PPC, PPS, and PPA. When it comes to pay-per-click it is where you will get compensated for so abounding hits. You’ll charge to accomplish your products and the website look inviting and interesting as well. You need to get click in order to receive payment. As for the PPS or pay-per-sale, it is exactly what it sounds like. You will get paid for each sale that you make. It’s very simple.
Even more exiting than incorporating a business.
Then there is PPA. This means pay-per-action. This is where you will be able to get paid for every time someone registers to the site, makes a purchase, clicks, and so on. There are many ways that you’ll be able to make a profit with pay-per-action.
Sound too good, eh?

How can you establish a business without leaving the comforts of your home?
And do so with just a small capital? The answer is simple and it’s right in front of you. Think for everyone else. Act for everyone else. If they can’t do it, do it for them.

But how would you do it? To know the specifics, take time / time investing to attend seminars and workshops for added advice and how to gather tips on starting a business. If you don’t want to absorb your money on the first suggestion, there’s always an alternative. You could drop by the library within your community and read books regarding management and business. Well at least, that’s free. You just have to be part of the community. And no Yellow Page Advertising too, he he he…. Or better yet, use the internet for various researches.

Home based entrepreneurs benefit vastly on having their business right at their doorstep. It extinguishes the agony and trouble of being stuck in heavy traffic and being late. Travel time would take at least thirty seconds from your bedroom to your home office. No dress code required.

You could come to your office on your pajamas, no one cares, and you’re the boss. Family time is not compromised. You are the boss of your own company. Best of all, self-discipline is practiced.
Here are 3 of the best suggestions for gearing up your home business:

1. Garage Sale – “the old and perhaps the new”

Sure you have clothes that are used only once. Those that your mother gave you when you were three but you wore them only once because you never liked it. Remember? That’s right. Sell it on Monday.

Sign board announcement: Kid’s stuff on sale!
Your husband loves sports but that was 5 years ago. Again, sell it on Tuesday. Hunt down those baseball cards and sports gears he kept in his closet.

Sign board announcement: Sports stuff on sale!
Now are you having a clearer picture of what I’m trying to paint? You could sell different kinds of stuff on different days. That would make your garage a bit more interesting.

2. Food for Thought – “Sweet. Spicy. Sour.”

Cooking can be very consuming. But if your hands were made for it, then try the catering business. Supply food for gatherings like parties, anniversaries, meetings, etc. If you’re also good with pastries, then convert your garage or a part of your house into a mini café.

Set up a relaxing ambience that would suit and entice customers to hang around. Give them a reason to stay. A good cup of coffee, light music, and a satisfying bite of their favorite blueberry cheesecake would definitely work up an appetite to keep them coming back for more.

3. Clean it, Scrub it – “From top to bottom”

Having an obsessive-compulsive type of personality can be an advantage and it can be put into good use. Aside from imposing cleanliness within your own vicinity, other people’s house might need it as well. In a generation where time is of the essence, workaholics fail to maintain an organized environment.

That’s where you come in. Advertise your services to those people who badly need grooming. Emphasize that when the environment is healthy, the client is healthy as well.

Are thoughts hasty in? From my point of view, the percent of failure depends on the time when you say “no” or ‘it’s not possible” to acumen that it is.
Not too bad eh? Think a little bit, and you can find more ideas.

When you write articles, you will attract more attention and get more website traffic, online publicity and profits.

BUT, if you want to write articles that get read and keep your audience coming back for more, you must follow my basic rules of writing for an online audience. If you are used to writing articles for print publications, be sure to read these rules. The online consumer is different than the print consumer.

7 Article Writing Tips to Ensure Your Targeted Audience Reads What You Write & Buys What You Are Selling:

1. Use conversational copy. Talk to your readers. Use words that people know. Absolutely, do not use jargon. It is boring. You will lose your audience’s attention immediately. So, use words that people are familiar with and can connect to. Write like you talk and let your personality and experience shine through. You will make a better connection with your readers.

2.Go active. Words have power. Find specific active verbs to paint your copy. This will make your article exciting and lively. Action verbs are more engaging and will move the reader along. And, by using action verbs, you will automatically reduce the number of words it will take to get your message across. For example, “John loves Mary” is stronger than “Mary is loved by John.”

3. Make your copy benefit oriented. Honestly, your readers don’t care how many awards you have won. They don’t care how many degrees you have or how many books you have written. All they care about is how you can help them solve their problems. So include a strong benefit in your article title. Include benefits in your article. And add benefits to your “About the Author” section.

4. Connect with your readers’ emotions. We all want to feel smarter, richer, happier and thinner. Use these emotions to connect with your reader.

For example, “Do you feel paralyzed every time you have to go shopping? Do you hate trying on clothes? Does stepping in front of that three way mirror strike fear inside you? Here are my 7 top tips to help you lose weight now…”

5. Keep sentences and paragraphs short. When your readers see articles with long sentences, long paragraphs and no bullet points or sub-headings, they will automatically skip that article.

Here’s why?

Large chunks of information scare them.

It overwhelms them.

It takes too much time and effort to read that article.

And that’s the psychology of most readers online.

So make your sentences and paragraphs short. If your sentences are longer than 20 words, cut them up into two sentences.

You can also add lists and bullet points. And, use subheadings that will attract readers when they scan articles, just like I have done with this article.

6. Front-load your point. When you make readers wade through paragraph after paragraph of unrelated anecdotes before you get to your point, you’ve lost your audience’s attention.

Yes, Mark Twain pulled that stunt all the time. But, your name is not Mark Twain.

You want to tease your readers with bits of information they need to know. This way they’ll stick around to the end. They’ll then want to click on the link in your “About the Author” section and buy your products or services.

7. Simplify. Worried you’re not using the right words? Use simpler words. Worried that your sentences are not clear? Make simpler sentences. Worried that people won’t see your point? Make your point simpler. Make things simpler and your writing problems will vanish.

That’s why every newspaper in the world is written so a sixth grader can understand.

I’m not telling you to boil everything down to “see spot run” simplicity. But, if you can’t make people understand what you write, it’s not because the world is filled with morons. It’s because your messages are not clear.

These are just some of the tips found in my Complete A to Z Article Marketing System at http://www.BroadcastYourArticles.com This easy system has helped hundreds of people just like you get articles get read from top to bottom. Follow my article writing advice and you will get more online publicity, website traffic and profits!

When you join an affiliate program or start an affiliate program of your own, you have to decide whether it will be a single tier or two-tier affiliate program. With a single tier program you earn a commission on any sales you make and that is it. If you are running your own affiliate program, you pay your affiliates a commission for any sales they refer and that is all.

However, with a two-tier program, affiliates are allowed to recruit sub-affiliates and are paid a small percentage of the sales these sub-affiliates generate. For example, the affiliates may earn a 30% commission for selling product X himself; and when one of the sub-affiliates makes a sale, the affiliate may get a 10% commission as well. This is very profitable for the affiliate as he can recruit an army of sub-affiliates, all earning commissions for him without any effort on his part except for the initial recruiting process.

If you are starting an affiliate program of your own should it be two-tier or single tier? Some might shy away from the seeming expense of a two-tier program. But is it really that expensive? Many affiliate program managers make the wrong decision on this.

Let’s look at an example. You have an affiliate program up and running and an average affiliate joins your program. Mr.Average has a web site that receives average traffic. He also has an ezine with thousands of subscribers published monthly. Mr. Average posts your affiliate links to his web site and promotes your product to his ezine list.

Initially, he generates good sales. However, a point comes when he saturates his market with your product and his sales begin to drop. He begins to lose interest in your program and your sales remain small. What happens if you set up a two-tier program? Rather than trying to keep your commission pay outs small, you motivate your existing affiliates to recruit other people to your program. This will exponentially increase your affiliate sales. Would it not be worth paying the referring affiliate a percentage of their sub-affiliates’ sales? Now when Mr.Average joins your affiliate program this is what would happen. When he has saturated his market with your product, he would now promote your affiliate program to his customers and ezine subscribers. Many of Mr.Average’s customers and subscribers decide to join the affiliate program. This in turn will motivate Mr.Average to continue promoting your products and recruiting affiliates.

Now what is the situation?

1) Your income increases because of increased sales.
2) You have a much larger customer base to which you can sell ‘backend’ products.
3) An increase in your income because of the life time loyalty of the customers referred by your affiliate.
4) An army of sub-affiliates who will sell your products, and in turn promote your affiliate program to their customers and subscribers.

The little extra in affiliate sales commission pay outs will be more than compensated for by the exponential sales increase. This is why the two-tier affiliate program is a guaranteed winner and should be the automatic choice for potential affiliates and affiliate program managers.

So, what does it take to keep super affiliates on their game and advertising for your business? Well, you could say money again and while that wouldn’t be wrong, the answer has a lot more to do with the assurance of potential for income.

You see some merchants are floundering with the concept of “the cookie” and how long a cookie should be set for. They think that if they shorten the lifespan of the cookie that they won’t keep paying for the affiliate to acquire the same lead several times. So, what you might see in various affiliate programs are merchants who short the affiliate by only giving them a 48-hour window to deliver a lead from the customer’s initial click-through.

Statistics show that most customers will visit a site an average of five times before completing the lead or sales process. I’m thinking that the merchant’s 48-hour window might be a wee bit narrow for the affiliates to get what they want from the transaction and a little short-sighted for the merchant since “super affiliates” aren’t likely to want to help them as a result.

That’s short-sighted thinking. Studies show 98% of sales come within the first 48 hours after a person clicks through to a site. If that’s the case, why wouldn’t you extend that cookie for the maximum time allowed, because it makes the affiliate happier. In fact, some affiliate networks are equipped to track sales as long as 180 days after initial click-through.

If it’s not glaringly obvious, let me say it simply for you. Super affiliates like merchants who set cookies for extended periods of time. The potential for income from their advertising efforts to your potential customers is much greater and for them, that translates to more income return for their efforts to market you.

Super affiliates are “basically, commissioned sales people with the whole world to work for, who can walk away at the drop of a hat. Super affiliates are in the driver’s seat in their relationships with marketers, not the marketers. So you should treat that affiliate as you would anyone in the power situation. They are top producing digital sales people, pay them well and make sure they’re happy.

So, what do all “super affiliates” want? To be paid well and to be ensured happiness throughout the process.
